Evangelia (Evie) Murgia is a Hydrogeologist with experience in project management, data management,  and field and environmental investigations. Serving at the Michigan Geological Survey since September 2019, Evie has demonstrated leadership in directing and coordinating a large scale and long-term project aimed at enhancing the Michigan water wells public database’s quality. Her focus on improving hydrogeologic maps and data applied to groundwater concerns underscores her commitment to environmental stewardship and public health.

Evie has excelled in field operations leadership and training, overseeing monitoring well installations, and assisting in geological mapping using various drilling methods. Her expertise extends to program budgeting, staff procurement, and comprehensive site planning. Evie has played a pivotal role in bolstering the Michigan Geological Survey’s online presence; spearheading the construction of a new organizational website, enhancing site visitation and audience engagement, and initiating the production of an online data library, facilitating access to crucial information for researchers and policymakers alike.

Evie holds a Master of Science in Earth Science with a focus in Hydrogeology and Technical Management from Western Michigan University, during which she became familiarized with environmental geophysics, groundwater sampling, engineering project management, contaminant transport, and remediation technologies.

In addition to her role at the Michigan Geological Survey, Evie serves as an adjunct geology professor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. This dedication to mentorship and professional development is evident through her provision of workshops and internship oversight. Evie also volunteers as a geological consultant for the Michigan Potter’s Guild and K-12 environmental science instructor for the Izaak Walton League, and participates in outreach activities to raise public awareness of geoscience accessibility.
