Robert Mahin has lived and worked as a geologist for 35 years. For the last 33 years, he has lived in Marquette, Michigan. His career began at Purdue University where he earned a BS in Geology and a BA in Technical Communications in 1983/84. He then went on to the University of Utah, receiving an MS in Geology with a focus on economic geology. Upon graduation, he worked for Western Mining Corporation in Great Basin gold exploration and in 1990, was transferred to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to explore for gold in the Ishpeming Greenstone Belt as well as in the Black Hills. Since then, he has worked for numerous companies including Kennecott, Cleveland Cliffs, Rio Tinto, and Lundin Mining. He has explored for magmatic sulfide deposits, VMS, SEDEX, and diamonds across the midcontinent. From 2011 to 2020, Bob was the Exploration Manager for the Eagle Mine where he led his team to the discovery of the Eagle East deposit. Since then, he has been a geological consultant focused on Precambrian geology, critical minerals, and ore deposits. His work has taken him to Sweden, Norway, and Botswana.
