CoreKids

About

CoreKids utilizes the unique geological resources of the Michigan Geological Survey (MGS) to bring real Earth Science education to K-12 students. CoreKids’ fundamental mission is to increase awareness and understanding of Earth, its processes, and its natural resources. Michigan-specific resources include geologic history, fossils, watersheds, and many other topics. CoreKids provides programming to schools and non-profit organizations without charge.

Educational Resources

Learning materials created by MGS staff and partners are available below. Questions or comments on this content can be submitted using the links in the Additional Resources section below.

Additional Resources

CoreKids offers field trips to the MGS Repository, Western Michigan University’s Schmaltz Museum and Dino Park, and the WMU Asylum Lake field station.  As scheduling permits, we may be able to schedule classroom visits or school visits for events like Science Nights or other events that allow us to promote earth science.  School visits should offer opportunities for contact with larger groups than in a single classroom.
